Abstract: Across the world huge volume of solid wastes from various sources and activities is being deposited on landfills that leads to various environmental issues. Out of the total solid waste, paper alone is found to contribute to around 4.5%. According to a recent survey approximately 300 million tons of paper is being produced every year. The decomposing age of Cellulose is around two weeks to forty five weeks. Dumping of these papers openly in the landfills for such a long period could end up in hazards like fire accidents. But waste paper containing cellulose is a rich fibre material. On the other hand the cost of cement is growing gradually. Thus bricks with fibrous cement can be manufactured by replacing cement in cement paste. The present study covers the mechanical and physical properties of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) bricks prepared by partially replacing OPC containing 20% Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) with paper pulp(PP) obtained from newspaper in 10%,20%,30%,40%, 50% by weight is investigated. The weight of bricks with paper pulp (PPB) is found to decrease by 0.6%, 3.37%,4.81%,5.90%,8.67%,12% from the conventional clay brick when 0%,10%,20%,30%,40%, 50% is added. Hence PPB is a lightweight brick. The compressive strength of PPB is found to enhance by 68.59%,66.16%, 49.726% for addition of 0%, 10%,20%PP and decrease by 9.02%,17.89%,49.46% for addition of 30%,40%,50%. The absorption of water by the PPB is observed to be less than 20% as in accordance to standards.
