Abstract: Increasing power demand in present situation has to comply with the power generation. Generated power has to meet the quality standards. With the introduction of nonlinear loads like static power converters inject harmonics into the system which effect operation of the system adversely. In order to improve the performance of the system these harmonics are to be mitigated and reactive power need to be compensated. In the proposed work a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is designed to compensate reactive power and the behavior of the system is analyzed by introducing reverse harmonic current. Keywords:
